Our First Beginner Blacksmith Class

We recently started working with the local community education program to offer art classes at the island, taught by Gary. This is something we've been wanting to do for a long time, but this year is the first that we've had the facilities -- a pottery studio and blacksmith shop -- ready to go. It's been a learning experience for us as well as the students, and we're excited about doing more classes this winter.

Our first beginner blacksmith class was held in early August, 2013, and we had four students, which is our maximum number. Parker, Carrie, Gary, and Gene all came in knowing little to nothing about blacksmithing, and between the four of them they created a cup rack, an oven door, various hooks, object d'art, and a candleholder!

The pottery classes are taking place this month and I'll be posting about those, too.

Carrie needed an oven door for her outdoor pizza oven, so she made a unique one
