We were out walking along the east side of the island last week, and came upon three river otters enjoying the newly forming ice. We sat down on the shoreline in the woods and watched them for a good half hour. They never did discover that we were there, so we were able to observe them doing what otters do when no one is watching. They poke their heads up through the thin ice and look around (the sound that makes is like the sound of a sack of ice cubes falling on the floor), they climb up onto the ice and bask in the sun, and one of them even relieved himself over in the reeds by the shore. Except for that last part, what a treat it was! :-)

Wish I was there to see it in person. Except for the last part with the otter in the reeds ! Thank you for the pictures also !
